Your exploration starts in the morning with the visit of Angkor Thom (the Great Angkor/City) and to get started with the monumental Southern Gate lined on both sides with the Gods and the Giants; it is one of the five gates leading to the Bayon Temple and Center of the Khmer Empire, so you will understand the strategic structure of the first Angkorian King from the XIIth century who embraced Mahayana Buddhism as the State religion. Carry on your discovery to the recently restored Baphuon and its huge Reclining Buddha,
Ta Prohm Temple gate, then be amazed by the “temple in the jungle”! Your end of the afternoon will be devoted to admiring one of the most extraordinary works of nature, concentrated here in this temple where huge cheese makers extend their roots through stones lifting them, and gradually disrupting the original configuration of this temple.
you will now get into an in-depth tour of Angkor Wat, THE masterpiece of Khmer arts at its glory. It is the most famous temple and largest religious structure in the world, as well as the most impressive of all the Angkor monuments, which five towers, with a golden rosé color, became the emblem of all the successive regimes of Cambodia.
DAY03 SIEM REAP PHfNOM PE BOAT TRIP , (BL )
Breakfast at hotel, then check out traveling to Phnom Penh
we will stop over at Spider town Sakoun market this is called a Spider Sanctuary- as far as I know it is more popularly know as Spider Market.
The market itself is an odd mix - on the one hand we have spiders, silkworms, caterpillars, grasshoppers, frogs etc, and then there is a whole lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. They also have candied fruits and chips. jackfruit chips which were very good! The whole point of stopping here is to try the insects;
the everting group will see Wat Phnom
Wat Phnom (Wat Phnom Daun Penh)
The temple has a close-knit relationship to the capital city. This, in fact, is a sanctuary founded by Daun Penh (Grandma Penh), a wealthy widow who in 1372, retrieved from the river a Koki tree log with five Buddha statues in it and ordered to elevate a piece of her property on which to build a temple to house the statues. The 27 metres (89 ft) high man-made hill became known as Wat Phnom Daun Penh. Phnom Penh (literally, Penh’s Hill) takes its name from the present Wat Phnom (Hill Temple).
Over the years, Wat Phnom has had numerous add-ons to the initial shrine that dwelt within the compound of this wonderful sanctuary. The most significant of which is the massive stupa that enshrines the ashes of King Ponhea Yat who in 1434, arrived and built the city of Phnom Penh. Wat Phnom has become a central attraction in the city and is a ‘must visit’ when in Phnom Penh.
Breakfast + Dinner Including
DAY04 PHNOM CITY ROYAL PALACE ( BL )
Breakfast at hotel after group will see
Royal Palace
The beautiful towering spires of the buildings at the palace are a great example of classic Khmer architecture found in Cambodia today.Tourists are welcome to visit the Throne Hall (Preah Tineang Tevea Vinichhay) where coronations and official ceremonies take place. The gardens are beautifully manicured. Buildings on the palace grounds include the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Preah Keo Morakot), Stupas (Chedi), the Royal Dining Hall, the Chan Chhaya Pavilion and a French building that was a gift from Napoleon III.Among the numerous interesting buildings, within the 183,135 square meter compound is the Khemarin Palace, or Prasat Khemarin meaning “Palace of the Khmer King”, the official residence of His Majesty, King Norodom Sihamoni. The Khemarin Palace is in a protected part of the compound and not open to public.
Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21)
Prior to 1975, Toul Sleng was a high school. When the Khmer Rouge came to power it was converted into the S-21 prison and interrogation facility. Inmates were systematically tortured to extract confessions, after which they were executed at the killing fields of Choeung Ek. S-21 processed over 17,000 people, less than a dozen of whom survived. The building now serves as a museum, a memorial and a testament to the madness of the Khmer Rouge regime.
Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach)
The Independence Monument was erected in 1958 in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia to commemorate Cambodia’s independence from French colonialism in 1953. Designed by Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann, who was ‘personally selected and instructed’ by Prince Norodom Sihanouk on how it should look like, the 37 meters tall symbol took the form of a lotus very much the same as the design of the Bakong Temple from the Roluos group of the 9th century. The one-hundred Nagas and snake motif can be seen in historical, cultural, archaeological, and business contexts.
River Cruise
Rising from the Himalayan mountain of Tibet, it trickles and gradually winds its way through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam before spilling into the South China Sea. In its course, the mighty Mekong meets the Tonle Sap Lake which is the largest lake in South East Asia and effectively, the heartbeat of Cambodia. The annual pulsation of the flooding seasons has been a huge contribution to Cambodia’s existence for millenniums.
When in Cambodia, tourists are urged to explore these timeless waterways by taking a cruise up the mighty Mekong, observe the beauty of nature along the course and discover the amazements at the center of the Tonle Sap Lake.
There is a huge community living on the lake itself. This is definitely a gentle and wonderful way to experience local life that has remained unchanged for centuries. Tourists can stop off to have a cuppa at a floating café in the middle of the lake, watch the small communities along the riverbank, visit remote temples far from the beaten tourist paths and enjoy the river breeze.
